Heavy Duty Air Compressor
Are you looking for a heavy duty air compressor?
Shopping for an air compressor can be quite the challenge, especially since there are different types and brands to choose from. Just to give you an idea, I’ve worked in construction for most of my life, having just retired recently, and I’ve rarely seen two identical air compressors.
That doesn’t mean you should give up on it, though. Rather, I have put up this blog as a way of encouraging you and helping you make the right decision.
What Is A Heavy Duty Air Compressor?
Basically, an air compressor is a device that collects air from the atmosphere and compresses it using various pistons, converting it into stored energy. Once released, compressed air can create a very powerful force, which can be used in a variety of applications.
A heavy duty air compressor, in particular, is best suited for heavy-duty industrial applications, such as those in power plants and chemical manufacturing, though you can also find a lot of uses for it at home.
For example, it can be used to operate a wide range of pneumatic power tools, including nailers, wrenches, saws and drills, and to fill up all types of tires in just seconds.
Heavy duty air compressors usually have motors that run on more than 2 horsepower and can deliver more than 100 pounds per square inch (psi). They can be electric or gas-powered, while the 12v heavy duty air compressor can be connected to your car’s battery or electrical system.
Heavy duty air compressors are also mostly two-stage compressors. What this means is that they have two air storage chambers or two cylinders, as well as two pistons, instead of just one, which means more air is stored and more power is produced, up to 150 psi and even beyond.
Choosing An Air Compressor
In choosing an air compressor, one of the first things you should determine is what you will be mainly using it for. This, in turn, will help you determine the amount of power you need, the amount of pressure you need to produce and the volume of air you need to store.
You should also choose a good brand. Heavy duty air compressor manufacturers that are certified by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) are recommended, as well as brands that have parts that are easy to find.
Finally, there are some features you might want to look for in your heavy duty air compressor, too, like an oil-free motor for less maintenance and a belt drive and V cylinders that allow the compressor to run cooler.
